At The Village of Healing Center, we believe that Black men are essential to the strength of our families, our neighborhoods, and our future.
You are our fathers, sons, brothers, husbands, mentors, leaders, and protectors. Your health matters—not just to you, but to everyone who loves
and depends on you.
Yet far too often, Black men put their health last. Many wait until symptoms become severe before seeking medical care.
Unfortunately, some of the most serious health conditions affecting Black men—including high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, and prostate cancer—often develop silently, without warning signs.
That’s why one simple message could save your life:
Know Your Numbers.
Knowing your health numbers is one of the most important steps you can take to protect your future and improve your quality of life.
What Numbers Should You Know?
Blood Pressure
High blood pressure is often called the “silent killer” because it usually has no symptoms. Left untreated, it can increase your risk of heart attack, stroke, kidney disease, and other serious health conditions. Unfortunately, it is reported that Black men have one of the highest rates of hypertension in the country.
Blood Sugar
Diabetes affects our communities at disproportionately high rates. Regular screening can help detect prediabetes and diabetes early, when lifestyle changes and treatment can make a significant difference.
Cholesterol
High cholesterol can contribute to heart disease and stroke without causing symptoms. A simple screening can help identify your risk and guide treatment if needed.
Prostate Health
Black men are more likely to develop prostate cancer and are more than twice as likely to die from the disease compared to other groups. Early detection saves lives.
A Primary Care Provider Can Change Your Life
One of the most important investments you can make in your health is establishing a relationship with a Primary Care Provider (PCP).
A PCP is more than someone you see when you’re sick. They become your healthcare partner—helping you prevent illness, manage chronic conditions, monitor your health, and connect you with specialized care when needed.
When you have a trusted provider who understands you, shares your lived experience and knows your health history, you’re more likely to catch problems early and stay on track toward better health.
At The Village of Healing Center, our all-Black medical team provides healthcare that serves social and cultural needs. We understand that Black people have experienced barriers to quality healthcare and have felt unheard in medical settings. Our team is committed to providing compassionate, culturally sensitive care where every patient is treated with dignity, respect, and compassion. We want our community to thrive.
