Winter in Cleveland brings cold temperatures—and an increased risk of respiratory illnesses like flu, COVID-19, and RSV. For Black families, these illnesses can be especially concerning due to higher rates of chronic conditions and systemic barriers to care. At The Village of Healing Center, we provide culturally sensitive healthcare that empowers families to stay healthy and
informed during respiratory virus season.
Why Respiratory Illnesses Hit Harder
Cold, dry air irritates airways, making conditions like asthma worse. Spending more time indoors increases exposure to viruses and allergens. Black families often face additional challenges, including limited access to preventive care and higher rates of chronic diseases like diabetes and hypertension—conditions that can complicate respiratory infections.
