Village of Healing recently served as the host location for a news conference led by U.S. Rep. Shontel Brown, alongside community members and health care advocates. The conversation centered on the urgent reality that many Ohioans may soon face dramatic increases in their health insurance premiums if federal tax credits expire at the end of the year.

These tax credits currently help more than 500,000 Ohio residents afford insurance through the federal marketplace. Without them, families could face sudden, unaffordable jumps in their health care costs.

During the event, one local resident shared emotionally how losing these credits would impact her family and their ability to remain insured. The story reflects the concerns of many, particularly in communities already facing barriers to care.

Village of Healing Founder & CEO Dána M. Langford, MS, CNM, FACNM, spoke about how policy decisions disproportionately affect Black patients and families:

“Our patients know that when something big hits, we’re going to get hit the worst.”
